The National Fire Protection Association
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), which was formed in 1896, is a non-profit organization devoted to to the fire safety standards and codes. It currently has over 40,000 members who work to determine safe practices and establish standards for all areas of commercial, industrial and residential construction. They publish many documents including NFPA-70 - better known as the National Electrical Code.

Machine Tool Electrical Specification

This is the specification that covers Industrial machine equipment and tools. This specification was previously covered by the JIC.

NFPA 79 helps you ensure fire safety by addressing the electrical considerations specific to equipment, apparatus, and systems used in industrial machinery and industrial manufacturing CE processes not covered in the National Electrical Code®.

Feaures of this specification include:

  • Greater harmonization with IEC 204-1
  • Rewritten and expanded requirement for wire color-coding
  • Critical changes that correlate NFPA 79 with the NEC®
